Another Shrewsbury come and gone

~ September 11, 2007 at 17:02 (Views: 104 )

Ah once again the Shrewsbury Renaissance Faire was this last weekend. It marked the 12th year of the Faire. I must say that finding the faire, about 7 years ago, was one of the most fun things I had ever done. Previously I had been to different Ren Faires and had lots of fun. Shrewsbury, since it was in my backyard, was the first one that I decided I should try to help out and work Faire as well. That was one of the best choices I have ever made. Aside from the great friend ships created, it is awesome to be a part of something so fun and have a chance to make others enjoy the same magic that is Faire.

This year's Faire was no less magically, although it was a lot hotter. Saturday was not so bad, but Sunday everyone was looking for the closest shade, me included. I guess us Oregonians are just not cut out for the heat, as the temp rose to 95F. None the less, the show must go on and it did. There wear some great acts this year. Foiled Again had a nice bit, Tobias the Adequate is a great magician/comedian, and the kids always love Gaffer Applewight. Of course the joust was the main event, and it showed as well as ever.

For my part, our games of darts and catapults went well. The catapult was more accurate this year, and I think many players were happy to hit more targets and win cooler prizes.

The sad part is that one weekend comes and goes so quickly. ;-(

One great year!

~ August 13, 2007 at 16:43 (Views: 67 )

Jodi and I celebrated our 1st year wedding anniversary over the weekend!

I can't believe it has been one year already. Aside from being the quickest year ever, it was the most fun one of my life!

Here is to many more!!!

Bocce ball is the best!

~ July 17, 2007 at 11:33 (Views: 104 )

This last week we had a retreat and I was re-introduced to a great game/pass time. Many years ago, my great grandfather had a Bocce ball court at his retirement home. I remember it being really fun (of course I was only 6 years old). As it turns out, 27 years later, it is still really fun, especially after a few beers. Plus, as a co-worker said, "I like to play games where the goal is to get one thing as close to another thing as possible". Come to think of it, isn't that the goal of all physical games?

My wife the runner!

~ July 11, 2007 at 10:37 (Views: 75 )

My wife, Jodi, has been training for a half-marathon the last 6 months. It has been great for her, and all her hard work finally paid off a couple weekends ago. She finished the race no problem and she was so excited that she is looking for more to run! Go girl go!

The Faire season begins!

~ July 3, 2007 at 17:42 (Views: 70 )

This last weekend I traveled up to Spokane, WA. to visit some good friends and go to a Renaissance Faire that I have not visited before. We choose the location to go because our friends are in Montana and this is about half-way between us. We go to faires many times a year and this marks the first one of the year for us. The first one is always important because it takes time and practice to get into character. Although, this time, getting into character had more to do with drinking as many beers as possible at the Whitethorn Inn! The faire, Northwest Renaissance Festival, was small but fun. They have an excellent faire site and some good players. Only the lack of attendance and vendors kept it from being a great faire.
Here is a pic of us under the main entrance. For those unfamiliar with our faire names, we are (from left to right), Sheriff Naughtyhands, The Gouge, Captian Cookoo, and Admiral Laktos the Intolerable

It is my Dad's turn

~ April 11, 2007 at 17:53 (Views: 105 )

As I had mentioned, I went to CO to go skiing with my Dad. As it happens I made a video of him coming down the same slope, Union Peak at Copper Mtn. The only difference is that he turned 60 last year. I think his turns are pretty damn impressive!

Skiing in CO - recap

~ April 9, 2007 at 20:30 (Views: 104 )

It turned out to be an awesome 10 days!
We had good spring weather, warm and sunny with 3 days of fresh powder! We could not have asked for better. We managed to ski 3 days at Loveland, 2 days at Copper and 2 days at A-Basin.
I had promised some pics, instead you get a video. For those of you who think that I am making it all up, here is a video of me skiing down Union Peak at Copper.

Ahhhh, spring skiing

~ March 22, 2007 at 19:05 (Views: 100 )

It is that time of the year.
Every year, for spring break, starting in 1989 I have gone to Colorado with my Dad for a ski vacation. It is one of times of the year that I look forward to most, even more than christmas!

So, I am off to Copper Mountian, A-Basin, and Loveland pass for the next 10 days. I will post some pics when I get back.

House of Metal?

~ February 7, 2007 at 1:50 (Views: 96 )

Today I got a phone call from out of the blue. It was a band, Sly Baron, out of Springfield, OR. They wanted to book a gig at the House of Metal!

Well, the House of Metal is the name of my test venue for partyStrands. I had a fun time telling them that the venue was virtual. However, it was a pretty exciting call. I guess that our partyStrands venues are indexed into Google now when people search.

I still got to help them out some. I pointed them in the direction of our indie streaming radio, so hopefully they add some content to our indie library.

If you want to know more about Sly Baron, go to : Sly Baron
